Springfield - By the narrowest of margins, Springfield City Council approved a zoning change Monday night that will allow Walmart to build a Neighborhood Market at Campbell and Grand. The vote was 5 to 4. People packed council chambers to hear the final vote. There had been opposition to the store by people worried about it's impact on nearby businesses, and traffic through the area. Walmart Public Affairs Daniel Morales responded to the vote, “We are pleased by the results of tonight’s vote by the city council and their support of the new Walmart Neighborhood Market. We believe this new store will be a solution for those that are looking for a job or want access to fresh affordable food. We look forward to continue to listen and work with local leaders.”
