The Missouri State Highway Patrol would like to emphasize the dangers recent flooding in Central Missouri pose to boaters using Missouri's waterways. Large amounts of debris, including trees, have been forced off the shoreline by rising waters, presenting a unique danger to boaters. Floating debris may damage watercraft and injure swimmers. In addition, the rising lake levels, especially on Lake of the Ozarks, have dislodged numerous buoys from their permitted position. Boaters should watch for these displaced buoys, which may now be floating or positioned in the middle of the lake. The Missouri State Highway Patrol would like to remind boaters to be especially cautious, to be mindful of the floating debris, and to operate their watercraft with the highest degree of care.
